Jim Barnes is a customer strategist who offers unique insight into the customer experience and the relationships that customers build with organizations and brands. Through almost 40 years of experience and research, he has developed a carefully-honed understanding of customers and learned how to build profitable customer relationships. He has also mastered the art of passing his knowledge on to others through consulting, books, seminars, workshops and speaking engagements around the world.

Jim has written or co-authored eight books, including the internationally acclaimed Build Your Customer Strategy: A Guide to Creating Profitable Customer Relationships and Secrets of Customer Relationship Management: It's All About How You Make Them Feel.

Jim is a recognized thought leader on customer strategy. His unique perspective focuses on experience and relationships from the customer's perspective. He understands how customers build connections with brands and knows how to create customer-led growth. He has developed unique techniques to reveal customer insight. He uses proprietary relationship measurement tools to quantify the strength of customer relationships and prove the financial return from cultivating genuine relationships.

Jim has delivered keynote speeches, and presented seminars and workshops in the United States, Canada, Brazil, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, France, China, India, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Colombia, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Australia. He has played a major role as strategic advisor to national and international clients, including Tesco (UK), Eli Lilly-Elanco (Canada), IKEA International, Bell Aliant (Canada), eircom (Ireland), Kraft Foods Canada, Roche Pharmaceuticals (Ireland), HSBC (Turkey), Verafin Inc and Johnson Inc.

Jim holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School, a PhD in marketing from the University of Toronto and is Professor Emeritus at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He was a founding partner and chairman of a full-service marketing communications and research consultancy, with offices in Canada and the Middle East.

In 1997, Jim received the national Leaders in Management Education award from The Financial Post. He was elected a Fellow of the Marketing Research and Intelligence Association of Canada in 1999. In April 2011, he was inducted into the Canadian Marketing Hall of Legends.
